    Paying private rent
    no other benefits

    You can check these out at a couple of easy to use online calculators:

    My spreadsheet- http://taxcalc.eu/monthlyss

    Karl Grabe's online java form- http://taxcalc.eu/

    Both of these should give accurate results. If either person is employed in the public sector pre-April 1994, you'd be better to use the spreadsheet as it caters for that category of PS employees.

    In both cases, as the person in each scenario is renting you might need to adjust tax credits to allow for the rent credit (it is 20% of the rent paid for the year subject to a max of 20% of €1600). This can be done in the spreadsheet at the 'marital status' dropdown list [choose 'Let me enter my tax credits from that list] or on the java form [add €320 max to the 'Other credits' text field.

    I'd do the calculation for you but don't have internet access to the sites linked above.

    Gross per month                         2667   2667  |||||  4167  4167

    PAYE                                    232     195          833   733
