Going on my travels in a bit and looking to upgrade the laptop.

At the moment I have a Samsung Q35 - 12" with a CD Drive on board. Great machine - running well after 5 years but alas time to upgrade.

Was looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 11 and wondering what people make of it? I know it doesn't have a CD drive but other than that do people think its worth the money?

I think the lenovo is very expensive for what it is. And the battery life looks poor tbh.

check the HP DM1's 11.6 inch, decent batt life

or Asus 1215n - 5 to 6 hour batt life, 12 inch, little powerhouse

apparently best 11.6 inch is the Acer 1810, but still quite pricey
    8 hour claimed batt life

for travelling a good netbook would do. this is a very good lenovo netbook. it also has ion graphics making it more powerful than the average nebook. it will playback hd video with ease and even allow some gaming. also has hdmi and windows 7, decent harddrive and 2gb ram.

I'm in the market looking for a cheap netbook that'll be good for browsing, movies etc at home. Is this as cheap a deal as I'm gonna get? Did I read somewhere else on the forum that new processors are due out shortly which will make current ones cheaper? Is that N270 processor slower than an N450?

Battery Life 3-4 Hours (up to 4 hours with power management)

That is sucky for a netbook.

Asus 1015* can last 11-13 hours on balanced output. these usually around 350 depending on GFX. ION cost more. but it's worth it for high end.

The Asus 1215N while it is 12.1" screen it has the more gaming/HD top of the range. CPU D525 1.8ghz puts the Dual processor in. This is the the more expensive ones as it has the latest ION. You can get it for 500 or so

personally I'd recommend an Asus netbook over the others. They are quite a bit more stable than HP or Lenov, course there are dells who usually snap at the screen case.

Asus, is a more stable line and a fantastic battery.

It depends a lot on do you want gaming, watching movies or just surfing.

the edge will be faster but you do you really need that. the battery life won't be any more than 2.5hrs though in real-world. the s12 should do 4 hours. if battery life is not important (when travelling you can't always get a power port that easily) then go for the edge.
