    Hi All

Have set himself the task of drawing up directions etc to the venue and he's all set to do a printout of Google Maps. It's a bit long- winded, and I wanted to include some info about alternative accomodation and transport. Any ideas on how to include a map and directions in a more condensed way?

    Hi There,

I would advise going out and driving the route with a pen and paper.

I did not provide directions to the Church as it was bang smack in the middle of a small village but I did give directions from the Church to the hotel, that'll save space!

Google maps got it quite wrong in my case. (missed a few roundabouts, had the name/number of one road wrong etc.) So it was well worth driving it!
I also made a wedding website, theres lots of free templates etc. you can use such as mywedding.com, yola, wordpress etc. or an event page on Facebook! I put all accommodation suggestions and a link to google maps for the Church and Hotel.

To condense it further you could provide GPS co-ordinates

If you pm me your email address, I'll quite happily send you ours. We just put the satellite imagery of the trip on to the top of the page and then did transport and accommodation.

Won't be possible to drive the route as we are living overseas and have no holidays spare to be driving route :). The wedding website sounds like a great idea though, will be trying that!

    Helen, PM sent!

    Thanks all

I'd imagine a 4" x 3" section of Google Maps with x-marks-the-spot on a reasonable localised focus would be sufficient direction. Drivers are used to following maps and can get to the locality more or less unaided by you.

On the reverse the extra info.

(tip: print out the map on photo paper. It looks much nicer)

Website or print on the reverse side. Or send out an email...Not everyone will need it so you could tailor it to those who will.

Every wedding ive gone to has had 2 maps in with the Wedding invitation. A map with the church and a map with the venue. As far as I was aware, its very much standard now to include maps with invitations.

    Hi all,

I run weddingvenuelist.ie , we basically have a list of the wedding venues in Ireland sorted by county. We have a printable map for most wedding venues in the country, I've just uploaded it so was just wondering if anyone who's interested could try it out and let me know if it is useful, or if they have any suggestions.
I would love to incorporate a list of local B&B's on each map, but at the moment the amount of work that would go into such a task would be huge.
I purchased the location data direct from a popular SatNav company, so it's pretty accurate. Not all the venues have a map page yet though, so apologies for that.

    Paul

I'm going to resurrect an old thread if that's ok to ask peoples opinions on maps/wedding directions with the invites.

It's now 5 years since the discussion above (I've been unable to find a more recent thread) and was wondering if people think we still need to include them? Church and venue are in Galway so shouldn't be all that difficult.

A lot of the guests will be unfamiliar with Galway though...

Include the Eircode and they'll be able to look it up.

I had a wedding website and I had detailed directions and maps on that. We put the website address on the invitations so that people could get the directions, etc. Worked out well because people could access it from their smartphones. Most people these days have a map app on their phones so you could include the eircode, as suggested above, and if you have the GPS co-ordinates you could stick those in too.

That's a good idea - I have the google maps saved but of course the hyperlink in huge so I may look at doing something like that.

Maybe can put in the invite that if people send there numbers I'll send them the map

Eircode or GPS co-ordinates are now good enough for most people. I got married in 2009 when most people were still on fairly basic phones, but now with almost 100% smartphone penetration it's very normal to send additional information via email rather than inserts in the invite. This means you can include Google Maps links and such.

Always worth being aware if you have elderly attendees though who will be making their own way; they may need some old-fashioned written directions.

You could use a bitly link or a QR code! I prefer QR codes but it mightn't be the easiest for older guests.

Check out these for The Shelbourne
