Reference's Request - Prospective Employer

    Hello!

if one is fortunate to secure new employment in the current environment what is the process for references?

The candidate provides details of two references and the employer contacts them directly. Does the employer write or do they ring? What type of questions do they ask? Is it more to ensure that your CV etc tallies up?

I imagine this is a formality as the job is actually secured.......

Any tales of last minute hiccups or trip ups at this stage? Interested in hearing people's experiences......

references are usually taken over the phone for speediness and if there is anything negative to be said, the referee cant be held liable...
Usually written ones accompany phone calls though...

    type of questions are

    1. timekeeping/sick leave
    2. ability
    3. enthusiam
    4. how they got on with rest of staff
    5. how they took orders
    6. how they worked as part of a team/ how they worked on their own
    7. strengths and weaknesses.. any area that they feel you would be very suited to.
    8. most importantly .. would they rehire you.. if not.. why?
    9. anything else to say.. eg did they go above and beyond the call of duty? in the previous employers opinion.. or just general stuff that doesn't fit into any question above.

    hope that helps///

oh and don't give someone down as a referee unless you've had a very positive experience with them
