Marathon tapering

I've read different reports, some suggesting a 2 week marathon taper, some a 3 week. I've been doing 3 hard weeks (LSR 20 miles or over) followed by 1 easier week (LSR 17 miles or under) for the past couple of months.

This weekend will be 14 days out from my marathon. I'm debating whether I should do a 21 mile run or a 17. Last week was a 17, so if I don't do a 20 miler this weekend, then by the time I get to the starting line, it'll have been 4 weeks since my last run over 20 miles.

What do most people here do in the weeks leading up to a marathon? I've 10 marathons done all with a 2 week taper, but I'm really looking to get preparation fairly close to perfect this time.

Id do 20 personally. 2 Weeks is enough time to get over it. 8 The weekend before and a few 5s the last week at a comfortable pace.

Depends on your pace RFR - I assume you're going to do some PMP miles in there. If you do 12 to 15 PMP miles then 17 or 20 overall sould not make too much difference a full two weeks out.

Good luck with the taper ;)

Id go with the 20m for this weekend. As previous posters said, you will be well recovered by race day. The more 20's you have done the better.

Also remember after mile 21- 22 in the Marathon, it becomes a mental game. At that stage the more times you have completed 20m training runs the better also...
