So i picked up a new HTC Desire this morning, followed the quick start guide to perfection, now when i boot up the phone i cannot enter the PIN.
Its as if the screen needs to be calibrated, but i cant get to use the menu or settings as i cannot get into the damn phone :(
Just rang the retailer and waiting on them to get back to me.
    Any ideas?

Nope its not calibration - you're set to the wrong keyboard. Do a reset (factory reset of whatever) and it will clear it and you'll be all set.

Take out the sim. No pin. Calibrate the keyboard.

    Simples.

Ive tried this but when i try to hit "next" it doesnt work, everything i try to touch either activates some other part of the screen or nothing happens at all.

Eventually got to calibration screen using the little touch joystick thingy but now the keys dont activate when it tells me to press them.

Just to add, im getting a replacement tomorrow.

Thats strange because I had exactly the same problem. Thought the keyboard was busted but it was that it had the incorrect keyboard setting - touch one key and it activated somewhere else. I just reset the phone and bingo it worked perfectly.

Not sure what else I can suggest.

Similar problem with a Legend. Middle of the screen giving me grief. It's gone back to HTC for fixing. Will post results when and if I get it back. Did all the usual factory resets and calibration etc to no avail.

Strange just seemed to happen all of a sudden. A few unexplained shut downs over the few days and then touchscreen stopped working.
