    Hi guys,

I've been working as a bookkeeper for the last 4 years. Now, I am considering a return to college. I've two options; a masters in IT or the more likely option of the finance / accountancy course.

My question is, what is the best route to becoming an accountant? What courses / colleges would you recommend. I will study part time so that is major factor. Also, how long does it take on average.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

You need to look up what courses give you exemptions to ACA,ACCA or CIMA or whatever you plan to do.

Doing an IT course will be of little use if its an accountant you want to become.

I have a degree in I.T already, I was looking at a masters in computing as a separate option.

However, with my current work experience I fancy a change in direction. Can anyone recommend part - time courses ?

Yes i saw that you had a degree in IT but my point is if you do a masters in IT how will that benefit becoming an accountant?

Assess in what direction you really want to go first.

http://www.accountingtechniciansireland.ie/ or seen as you have a degree already you could look at the CAI, ACCA or CIMA websites. You ll just get no exemptions.
