Hey anyone got any advice, it needs to double up (and have ok) input recording capabilities.

basically this is for an art project, i need the cables (which ones?) that'll take a component output from xbox/dvd player etc (analogue) and record it onto my PC.

budget as low as possible, without sacrificing too much quality. i actually dont know what im looking for at all, so i have no set budget. any recomendations?

FWIW im running a 2.1 sound system, and it would be nice to have good quality sound out aswell.

You'll need a cable like this (2x female RCA to 3.5mm)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Phono-Female-3-5mm-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q8KSS0

Just make sure you plug it into the line in, not mic...

That soundcard should do the trick I guess. Do you definitely need twice the inputs? If not, chances are your onboard sound will do the job nicely...

hi thanks. my onboard is a VIA chipset, and is a POS. i can hear the speakers playing different tones when i eg. change tabs etc. its quite annoying. would it be worth my while spending a little more on a card than the one i listed?

The one you linked to will do the job you described perfectly imo, no point in spending more than that when you don't really have to!
Should definitely be a big improvement over a Via chipset!!! (I know your pain!)

doesnt say what model. why does it have a vga output? is the Xfi much better than the one i listed at the top?

i think that is a serial connector,
the one you linked to is the older Soundblaster which is a good few years old now and has been replaced with X-fi for the past several years and the x-fi series is considered some of the best audio cards out there

The X-Fi series has been around since 2005, so that card might not exactly be a spring chicken either! (can't really tell much about it from the advert)
That's a midi port by the way (used to be used for joypads too!)

From what I can tell the card the OP originally posted was launched in 2007, and from using a similar card to that for very similar uses (recording via line in), I can safely say that it'll do the job they described perfectly well
