I have just got a job in England and i'm on the look out for a diesel car for a lot of motor way driving.
My budget is 3500 max, i'm looking at between 2000-2004.
Preferably some thing without a dual mass flywheel etc..
I just dont trust my current 1995 1.7td cavalier enough to bring it across the water:)
    Any suggestions/ links?
    Anything but an octavia!!!
    Thanks.

Mondeo or Vectra can be bought for pittance in the UK. They are everywhere so finding a good one should be no problem at all, but check everything out. Also check for underside corrosion - I checked a Vectra out for a friend not so long ago in a car supermarket and the underside had a some spots of rust and that was on a 4 year old car.

Correct me if i'm wrong but is that something to do with the grit they put on the roads when it snows or something like that?

Heard someone say it before and am just wondering :)

OP, why not as EPM said buy a car over there.

I assumed that's what the op would do.

They salt the roads in the UK in winter. Mind you, we do the same here.

How does insurance costs in England compare to here?
The only reason i'd prefer to buy here is just in case the job goes tits up..i'm not stuck with an English reg car to sell.
Plus i'm thinking that an sub 3k diesel car would be pretty easy to sell on again and it would be nice to have it to bring all my stuff over.

Last time I did a comparison, it was quite a bit more to insure my car in the UK than it is in Ireland.

You'll have to check if Irish insurance will cover you in the UK for the period of your stay though.
