A mate and myself are heading down towards Borris in Co. Carlow this weekend and would like to squeeze in a round on Saturday while we're in the general area. Can anyone recommend a decent course with green fees no higher than €40? We will be coming from Dublin, so we're open to any course on route to Borris.

    cheers!

Borris itself has a nice enough 9 (10 actually) hole course.
Gowran Park would be a very small detour - stay on the M9 until exit 7 (Paulstown) and you're only a few miles away. Then Gowran to Borris via Goresbridge is ~20 mins.
Carlow is another option - 2 courses (one pay and play I think). Take the Carlow (north) exit (near Castledermot) and it's 5 mins. Saturday may be busy on the main course?

Keep in mid the time of day you're intending to play - if you're early on Saturday there could be frost delays so watch for the forecasts too.
Mount Wolseley (Tullow) is another option, bit more of a detour but not outrageous.
Palmerstown House (Kill, Co. Kildare) also (depending on what rate you can negotiate)?

Is this Killerig Golf Club? If so there are mixed reviews about this course on this website.....

Carlow is the best course in the area.

So see what green fee they can do for you.

    No Killerig is here :-

Carlow is the nicest course around but at a €70 green fee I'd be interested if the OP can get it for much less?

Carlow GC (main course) do not take bookings from non-members for play on Saturdays, and only let non-members onto the 9 hole course, so Carlow GC is out for me......

Rathsallagh would only involve a short detour and is a fine track.

Have 3 options I'm gonna choose from:

    Leinster Hills €25
    Killerig €30
    Gowran Park €30

    Which one is best?

    cheers!

Its been a very long time since I played it but the 9 hole in Borris
was a really nice little course back in the ninties. Assume that it still is.
Very friendly club and in great condition.
