Hey guys, I've decided to get an Opel Vectra 1.6 as my first car.
What is the MPG of it?
I'll spend most of the time on country roads.

Id imagine the 1.6 would be fairly underpowered in that car, hence you won't get great mileage from it. Can't back that up with any experience with that car, but it is the general case, you tend to push it harder to get up to speed etc..

The 1.6 isn't even available in the Vauxhall line, probably an Irish bog standard spec, so there's no mpg details on parkers anyway.

My brother had a 1.6L '03 Opel Vectra (salon) a few years ago and he wasn't very happy with the MPG from it. He used to think the engine wasn't big enough for the size of the car. the death nail was three kids arriving and the boot just wasn't good enough anymore, access to the boot was just too poor for big items, like buggies. He or I haven't any figures on MPG sorry...
I had the 1.8L '03 Opel Vectra GTS (hatchback) and that liked petrol a little too much for my liking, I was getting about 33mpg (a full tank would last about 380 mile (600km) - I have a 1.9L CDTI (150bhp) '07 Opel Vectra SRi (hatchback) now and it's great, I'm getting about 47mpg (a full tank would last about 570mile (920Km) and if I done a few long drives with a motorway in the mix it will go over the 1000km mark... I would imagine the 1.9L (120bhp) would be more economical too...

Thats gonna kill my pocket considering I'm only in secondary school + there will be 4 passengers and their School bags and gear.
Any other 1.5/1.6 car which I can have in 4200 Euros budget with more than 35 mpg?

Might be better off paying a bit of extra tax and getting a diesel saloon if mpg and carrying 4 passengers is your priority?! You'd presumably pick up a good saab, skoda, vw for that price. A vw bora would probably do the job pretty well!

I have a 1.6 Vectra. You'll get 35-40 MPG on long journeys and considerably less around town.

Am I better off getting a Subaru Impreza (2003+) then?

I know It's a bit too late now, I've got myself a Vauxhall Zafira 2.0DTI ELEGENCE.
And might be changing it soon.

Wow, what a turnaround! Impreza to a Zafira. Something tells me your decision was made for you by somebody else???

It's not my cup of tea at all to be honest, Dad (sponsor) asked me to get this.
But I'm getting a 2003(new shape) Avensis tomorrow.

As I said it's not my sort of thing to be driving around in, I'm better off driving sedans and hatchbacks..And reversing it isn't too easy with them Pillars.

Anything flatbacked will be easier to judge than an Avensis saloon or hatch.

I have a 2004 1.6 and I had been getting rubbish mileage. Having just got suspension and tracking seen to however, I'm on 347 miles at the moment since brimming it and the petrol light is just about to come on. Reckon I'll get about 390mi/624km from this tank if I was to run it right to the wire. Almost exclusively city driving and bearing in mind the rear two tyres are causing mad shudder at high speeds as theyre different, I reckon it could do more.
