My brand new 3GS died after 3 weeks last Summer. Tried to restore it but iTunes said it wasnt possible and screen just showed "connect to iTunes" after that, wouldnt do anything else. After talking to Apple support a couple of times I sent it back and received a new one back.

Best to charge from the wall socket as opposed to through computer... try this and leave plugged in for a while and see if it picks up a charge...

no joy with the 30 sec power button, charging it just gets warm, maby a bit warmer than normal. think something might have shorted somewhere.
