Pricing of events

    Hey,

Just something that I've been thinking about. Was looking through the calendar deciding on a few races and noticed how the pricing varies hugely for similar events.

Bit shocked by some of the prices really.... anyone else think 60 euro is a bit much for a half marathon? So I've decided I'm voting with my feet (pun intended!) this year and gonna do smaller scale events, apart from DCM.

Its just a pity that some event organisers haven't taken into account the tough financial times we're in.

Sorry to start my posts with a rant! By the way I've been running on and off for 6 years. Have never ran a marathon but hoping to run a sub 3 by the end of the year.

There is a huge difference between pricing of events but you have to look at what you are getting for your entry fee before making a descison on whether to run an event or not.

Entry fee would be my last consideration. Primarily I look for events that look after their participants. There is plenty of information available on the web and the ATR Events sub forum to make up ones mind, I will always steer clear of inaugural events until such time as they prove themselves.
I will nearly always do events run by an AAI club or 100% for charity.

The Dublin Half-Marathon in September is €20 & this cost is reduced if you run any race in the series including the marathon. Some race costs are crazy, try the BHAA, a tenner for any one of their 26 races is great value.:D

Just for comparison, I entered early for a marathon in Leipzig in April this year. Cost was €30 and looks like it includes (my German isn't great so any mistakes are mine):
    • Pasta party the night before including dish, drink & race program
    • Some sort of food (gels?) every 5km
    • Personalised bib number (presume with my name on it)
    • Finisher medal
    • Massage tent afterwards
    • Chip timing
    • T-shirt for an extra €15

Cost is €40 now, will be €50 in Feb & then hits €55 after March 23rd so they certainly encourage you to enter early.
