And David Cameron's response to this will be: 'Have a few tracksuits, a couple of hundred Benson and Hedges and a shiny new Ford Cortina, It was used in the Sweeney.'

So the money has been given hopefully some is spent on recruitment even if they use the successful recruits from this campaign as part of the next. Even those with the 'Progressing' letter

Very selfish of me to say so but hopefully they extend 50/50 for another while so I can get in. Sorry if this offends.

Ultimately hopefully this does help combat dissidents. I know it all too well living where I do. Now we have to wait another while to see whats happening.

Also I was under the impression that if many public bodies dont spend their budget by the end of the financial year then their budget is reduced the following year.

Also 10 months seems a long time to go without recruitment. Even with natural wastage etc

Don't worry we are all feeling selfish at the minute. If they state they are keeping 50/50 going for a while longer I may consider going to the nearest Catholic Church and converting lol. Not that I attend any church. Seriously I remember a policeman telling me I was stupid for saying I was Protestant considering I am from a large Catholic family.

The Chairman of the Police Federation has welcomed £200m of extra funding for the PSNI to fight dissident terrorists, but has told UTV more officers are also needed.

So... i heard the same (or kind of the same) thing on the radio today. from what they said i got that they need about a 1000 new recruits-on top of what they already got in! so as far as i am concerned march may be the last intake - before a short break which will lead to more intakes (?) or a new campaign!?
keep your heads up as the war is not over yet :D

They might finish intakes as soon as and leave any new recruitment campaign until the brand new college is open, if that's the case I hope they get the new college finished pronto.

I cant see them being able to wait till then to start another campaign. Considering I dont believe that the new college has even had foundations put down yet, I dont see it being ready any time soon. So to leave recruitment for a couple of years with the threat level what it is, plus the new money and other factor, would be too long in my opinion. I would think they would have to do something sooner. But as with everything in this process....who knows

I agree with this thought process and as can often with happen with government budgets, if you don't use it, you lose it. While I doubt this will happen to these extra funds, I imagine the powers that be in PSNI have plans for this cash in mind already. In fact, I suspect that they would have asked by the government what they intend to spend the money on before it was granted.

Good question to ask , I saw an interview with Matt Baggot the other day and he was careful not to say anything specific about what he would do with the money .

I read somewhere that Matt Baggot had stated that he needed another 1000 officers to control the security threat in Northern Ireland. So here's hoping he follows through on this !
