I've got tracer unit on my new aeg, and I'm looking for recommendations for what ones to get and tips on how best to employ them.

So should I get them and mix lightly through my usual bbs, use them heavily mixed, on their own or how does it work best.

I have a battleaxe to use and hicaps.

Also, ill be buying them retail in Dublin or kildare or carlow. So of you've gotten any in the usual locations let me know how you got on.

And yes, I'm looking forward to this !!!!

From my experience with Tracers(which isn't much, only with mates')
It's probably best if you mix them very lightly as you don't wana give your position away anways and you only need a few once in awhile so you know where your shooting.

OR if you wana just spray em out for looks during the night mix in loads LOL

Completely up to yourself! but for me i think mixing in few is enough!
    xXx

Good question sir! I haven't used them myself as I've not yet played a night game or indeed indoors (fixing that issue on Thursday :D) but I have test fired them and they are EPIC fun. They're not the sort of thing you'd necessarily use in a 'serious' game but talking to mates who have used them @ night/in CQB they are great craic. Madbull is a popular brand with my mates and I'm pretty sure I've seen them in Hobby, they are definitely for sale on a couple of Irish online sites. The ratio of tracer to normal BB is entirely up to you, as you say you will be using a battleaxe I'm guessing you typically get through a lot of BBs on full auto, if that's the case then 1 tracer to every 10-20 standard BBs will probably get the job done. If you're a more controlled player who fires in short bursts you may need to go down as low as 1:3 but I have heard of guys using only tracers in their mags.

They are great fun but they also show the opfor EXACTLY where you are so expect to take heavy fire.

Im not sure which bbs would be the best to use.

But from what ive heard, and seen of them being used,
its usually suggested that you mix them for around about a 20% or so mixture.
so that roughly every 5th shot or so is a tracer bb.

I use the TM clone version by JG and it's great. I have it about 18 months without a problem.
I've used Madbull, TM, G&G and Vanaras tracer bb's in it and all worked well.

I've used them at the last two events in Sennybridge during the night battles. Used sparingly - they are great fun in a two way battle. (less is more...);)

I really only use midcaps and I found a mag or two full of tracers with 6 or 8 more regular mags, did the trick fine. Be aware that the tracer units will give a muzzle flash each time a bb passes it and irrespective of using tracers or not, hence my using a dedicated mag or two and switching the tracer unit off when not in use.

Most of the shops will have one or other make I'd imagine.

The one in mine is part of the hopup and the only indication its there is a blue glow in the back of the barrel. So not worried about the muzzle flash, as the rifle (a Pdw) has a really nice flash hider and you hdve to look directly down the barrel to see it.

I've seen guys using them in the.block, and what I was thinking of doing was filling the hicap with 1 in 8 or so, as the rate of fire is pretty high and I don't think I need to illuminate more than that.

any colours work best, thinking of red as that's my strongest visual color

    Any

Ahh good stuff! Interested to see how you find that tracer unit. I've mostly used green, yellow. Although available, the red's might be hard to get.
