Where is the line drawn between After Hours and Politics forums?

There's a lot of talk in AH about who would you vote for, will ______ be re-elected, what do you think of _______?

There is a Politics forum, and a subsection for the sole purpose of discussing this years general election.

I'm wondering why there are so many threads posted in AH that fall directly into the categories provided in the above places mentioned, but they aren't (as far as I can see) being moved to the appropriate forums.
Posting on After Hours to reach a larger audience is not allowed. If there is a more suitable forum for your thread, post it there.

I for one am fairly tired about the election thread takeover of AH, and I think it might be the case with many other posters!

Are you sick of the volume of political saturation within AH?

Are you sick of AH being used as a political forum? 43 votes

And the politics forum outlaws the practice of debate in some way?

Political threads in AH are more relaxed than on the politics forum. People can have a more "pub like" discussion on politics here whereas in politics they are more strict.

    No. It makes good debate

Political debate has a forum all to itself. I'm fed up of FF trolls and SF trolls (I'm sure there are Lab and FG trolls too) and people who just want to rile up people who post genuinely thoughtful replies.

I think there's a lot of sense in banning users from starting threads deliberately designed to start arguments over political parties/opinions/whatever. It's just irritating and doesn't belong here.

I enjoy a good debate,Sadly in the Politics threads it's impossible either your not answering the questions or the answers are to short!,resulting in a ban!

After hours gives you the opportunity to debate, without being banned because of an answer/point of view.

I'm guessing that in Politics, you couldn't say that Sinn Fein are a bunch of murdering gangsters, where as in AH, you can get away with it. - I hope.

I've seen a hell of a lot of aggressive debate in AH!

Would not go as far as to call it relaxed at all!

AH: I hate [insert party here]
Politics: I hate [insert party here] because...

AH: FF suck because berite's (sic) daughter wrote something
Politics: FF suck because [insert numerous failings here]

AH: You don't have to read the threads.
Politics: You don't have to read the threads.

    Originality: Do it yourself.

exactly what I am talking about,it seems the FF/SF voice must be shut constantly.

    Bingo, it's all about tone.

Here I can say that all TDs are actually gargoyles in disguise who feed off the blood of virgin bankers.

Try that in politics and it's welcome to bansville for trolling

Or at the very least you'll have people jumping down your throat looking for links to back up your point.

If you get in a debate in politics you get ripped to shreds by someone who doesn't appreciate a joke about something they feel so strongly about. Here you can talk shíte or try to make a point. If the consensus is to trim the politics then so be it but I feel it should be left in. The budget thread here was very good.

Couldnt I say that about any forum on After Hours. Why cant I start a thread aimed at taking a more relaxed look that the soccer this weekend, rather than using the soccer forum where they can review games more seriously. Or maybe I want to have a laid back chat about the Oscars here rather than using the film forum.

If there is a sub forum for a certain topic, USE IT.

Good point.Your new here, one thing you'll learn if you have an interest in politics is that you cant really debate any topic.

You can't post polls in Politics, don't know why. Maybe that's why the increase here. Everyone likes a good poll.

Can't take the politics forum seriously.

I'd agree with what some other posters have stated: AH should be about accomodating a 'pub-like, informal discussion on general topics of interest.
I don't see why any area/topic shouldn't come under this umbrella.
Politics, whether some people are interested in it or not, plays a huge role in the daily lives of everyone.
The only subject i see here that seems to get the 'no-tolerance' treatment is sport.
For instance a number of people tried to start threads on the Andy Gray/Sky situation and they were all locked: the reason given was that that is a subject for the soccer forum.
As it happens, the issue is only tangentially related to soccer and is more about discrimination/societal attitudes; the issue has clearly crossed into mainstream conversation and is not specific to those interested in soccer/sport.
Also, the soccer forum has restricted access.
If, say, a weather presenter was sacked in the same circumstances it would clearly be open for discussion in AH and not confined to the weather forum.

    Big Boobies!!

Ya cant get away with that on the Politics forum

Political forum = place where intelligent and coherent people who are educated on the aforementioned matters post their detailed opinions of the current political system and try to encourage other intelligent people to do the same.

AH = place where intelligent and coherent people dumb themselves down for other intelligent people with pointless and irrelevant comments which the intelligent people proceed to agree with to ensure they fit in.
