Know what you need them for. Why they should help you. Then pick up the phone, dial their number and tell them just that.

Just don't take that attitude with them off the bat and they should offer to see you within a couple of weeks.

Be nice, they are helpful folk.

You will require the services of an accountant. CEB's require business plans including projections prepared to a professional standard.

Also, any expenditure must be properly vouched and the claim to draw down funds must be accompanied by the appropriate auditors' certificate. Remember also that you have to spend the money (ie write the cheque) before you can claim it back, so it's likely that you will need some kind of outside finance before the CEB money comes in.

Finally...many CEB's will make a professional advisor (for advice on marketing, merchandising) available on a limited basis as part of the grant. USE THEM!

    Hi

Maybe the best thing is to have a general chat with you local Board first about your idea. If its a grant you're looking for there are fairly tight eligibility criteria(Boards have a fairly limited grant fund and have to target funds at certain types), the main one being that you dont duplicate or displace and existing businesses. . Cannot fund one over another where there are a number of businesses operating in the same market. If you dont qualify for a grant then ask if you can get a mentor. They are very good. Also the start your own business courses are cheap, are a great foundation and will stand to you through your startup. Its all about getting the right information. I work with a Board.
