Anyone know where to get a pair of osram nightbreakers / phillips xtreme bulbs? (H4)

The current ones are dangerously bad on dipped beam and worse now as I'm doing a lot more night driving now, there more akin to having a torch strapped to the front rather then headlights. They got aligned recently and I try to keep the lenses clean but there still rubbish.

Any bricks and mortar shop in north kildare (maynooth) or south dublin (stillorgan ect) area would do nicely.

I'm not 100% if C.P.L. in Maynooth have them, but I'm fairly sure that Leixlip Auto Parts have them. It's on the old Celbridge Road, beside Colaiste Chiarain.

The closest motor factors in Stillorgan that I can think of are J&S on York Road in Dun Laoghaire, Ashgrove Interparts on Kill Ave. And there's a place in Stillorgan village. Opposite the Shopping Centre. I thinks it's called MotorWorld. They also sell alot of bikes.

    Hope that helps.

CPL do not have them. Bloke in there looked at me like i had three heads when i asked for them and then said, we dont do HID kits. Laughed at said they were standard H4 lamps and directed me towards some cheapo ring ones. First time i've had any problems with them, usually there on the ball.

Found out Autocare are in dundrum. Will drop into them tomorrow

Halfords do a decent +90% range of their own brand bulbs that are not bad. Certainly better than standard stuff. One in Naas I think, there was when I needed an exhaust strap 2 years ago for the Lude anyway.

    I had Nightbreakers... rubbish.

I fitted to them to car that I had owned for 2 years.. They lasted 4 months top - blowing within a month of each other. Put the original Citroen bulbs back in and they lasted until I sold the car, another 1.5 years later!

I reckon they vibration of the bad roads cou;led with the extra heat shortens their life.

    Maybe I was unlucky?

4-6 months is there general life expectancy.

The reason there much brighter is that they pump the same current through a much smaller bulb - i.e the filament is thinner which results in a brighter bulb but a short life expectancy.]

    Always keep a spare :pac:

Have them in the landy and there great compared to the cheapo bulbs.

From what I have read phillips xtreme are the way to go.

Had nightbreakers before and found them decent enough, not as revolutionary as everyone makes them out to be though.

If you can wait a few days your probably best off ordering them online.

Yea i'll see what price they have them tomorrow and see if its worth ordering online. Potholes just appear in front of you on dips, there absolutely pathetic at the minute, so i'd like to replace them with something better :o

Try AD Dublin, 01-4260552. AD Ireland are Phillips agents.
