What colour shirt

So I have a women's black suit with silver pinstripes, and this tie that I want to wear (pale blue on the left)


Can anyone recommend what colour of shirt might go with this? I'm lacking in inspiration :pac:

Personally I think ties are unnecessary for women - I think the suit and shirt open would still be very formal.
I would choose the light blue, but it's hard to tell unless we can see ties with the suit.

Wouldn't the tie get lost on a light blue shirt?
I love my ties, I don't get much chance to wear them - It's not a particularly 'formal' formal occasion.

I'm not really sure. I'd match that blue with a light, cool-toned brown/taupe but I suppose that wouldn't really go with
black.

Oops! Read that wrong! I thought she was asking which tie to choose! Sorry! I would go with a white shirt for sure!

if we could see the suit it might help... hard to know about the size/ shade of the pinstripes.

I've gotten into the habit of wearing my ties with strong almost un-matching colours... although if it's a semi-formal you're better erring on the side of caution I guess... maybe a silver/steel grey. I'm not 100% sure about a blue tie with a black suit. Maybe that's me though!!!

Yeah, that is a point, but I couldn't find the suit online and can't lay my hands on a camera. If it was a dark blue tie I'd see your point, but I think it's grand with the suit.
Looks like I'm on the hunt for a pale grey shirt in Galway then since a few folk have said that, lets see if I can find anything other than black, white and frilly :pac: The clothes shops here are cack.

I hate most womens shirts, the collars don't stand up for ties at all. I tend to buy in mens departments, usually plain white shirts (debenhams is my go-to) and die them whatever colour I want for the particular outfit I have in mind. Turns out rubbish sometimes, but more often than not they go ok.

If you are doing that I'd advise as high a cotton percentage as possible and using the hand dye (dylon), you have more control over your final shade that way.

I feel the same way, and I have done that very thing with shirts before. The trouble I find with men's shirts is the length as I'm only 5'3", so they tend to be a bit long on me.
