Hi, just wondering if anyone has any tips on booking a cruise and what the important things to look out for are. Its a few years since we went abroad as waiting for the kids to be a bit older, they are now 4 & 2 and not sure if a cruise is a good option or restrictive?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as the internet a minefield!!

Hi. We have done cruising since kids were very young.(always Caribbean) I feel that it is a fantastic holiday even with young kids. I have always done a lot of research before every cruise. I check the cruise company website direct- which I have always found to be most expensive, but it gives you an idea. Royal Caribbean have Sale "Tuesdays" where they have rock bottom prices on certain sailings. Changes weekly. http://www.creative.rccl.com/sales/royal/Multi_Dest/Special_Offers/rci_sales_event.pdf Then I check with Online US agents. I have found http://www.vacationstogo.com/ the best. Based in US, but has freefone number (see website) specifically for Ireland. I have always found them v helpful. Sometimes these larger agencies can get you onboard credit or upgrades, which is great. Sometimes US$ rate can act in your favour.
Then, I would check with Irish agencies, I have used both Tour america (cruiseholidays.ie) and American holidays. Phone them up and chat, while having the info from other sources. I have actually found that they have often given better/as good rates as online.
Would recommend Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. Royal Caribb caters slightly better for young babies. 4yr old will be occupied most of day in kids clubs and on days while you are in port they will look after your child while you free to go off the ship with youngest and explore for a few hours. Sorry about the length of posting but get a bit carried away talking about cruising.. Enjoy (if you decide to go) !
