Alright? If any of yous are familar with Wikipedia and sport, you will probably know certain sports like soccer have great articles for their clubs, competitions etc. For example, the Premier League in England has a great article every season which keeps track of everything every time a game is played:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010%E2%80%9311_Premier_League

Also clubs have the same articles, for example Manchester United:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010%E2%80%9311_Manchester_United_F.C._season

Have any of yous ever considered doing something similar for the GAA competitions and counties in Ireland? Other then the All Ireland, the documentation for GAA events is awful. It either doesnt exist or is of poor/inaccurate quality. Also these up to date articles dont even exist for counties.

Basically I was going to try and clean up the GAA articles on Wikipedia while also creating current event articles for competitions like the NFL, Ulster, Munster etc Championships. I already created an up to date article for my own county Down here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Down_GAA_Senior_Football

The template is there for people to create those kind of pages for their own counties and help keep the information on the web forever like other sports do.

Anybody want to chip in and help out?

This is something I've always wanted to do if I had the time. However if I ever decided to get cracking on it I'd begin by working on the generic county pages, rather than try break them down into seperate seasons for goings-on in that particular county.

For instance the Waterford GAA page, while informative, is basically just wall-to-wall text. In hurling there's a 5,000 word essay for history, then a generic honours and players list. From a bit of browsing it seems much the same exists for other pages. The first thing I'd change is a decent directory of Championship matches of the last 15-20 years at least, all-time appearances/points scorers list and list of managers and captains.

Individual season pages would also require a lot of archiving around as well so I'll probably be sticking with the county teams for a while.

A lot of county pages are in a terrible state. I think the hurling section of the Waterford page is great, although if the football section had that kind of info you would see the page become an even bigger block of text. Perhaps things like pictures would help break the history up a bit to make it more interesting?

I think the seasons pages would be handy enough from this season onwards as the template for the Down page can be implemented onto other counties in no times. Previous years would be a bigger task and would require a lot of time researching. It would certainly be interesting to see if pages for the 32 counties could be maintained this year to start.
