I have a few jobs need doing and have a plumber coming to quote me.

A radiator moving, a sink plumbed into a bedroom ( beside pipes), shower washer replacing _ needs specialist tool to get the knob off), new shower knob installed ( different shower).

I figure this will take maybe 2 or 3 days to someone who knows what they are doing and takes their time. How much is the daily going rate at the moment - I've heard it's down to €100 -€120 per day.

Can't see more than 2 days in that, unless your moving the rad to the other end of the house.

No it's moving to the opposite wall where it originally was so the pipes are still in place. 2 days at €200 a day I could just afford. The guy who was recommended only does heating now so any recommendations please pm me.
    Thanks

Doesn't sound like any more than a days work in them few jobs.

Rate will depend on who you get, I would guess €200 would be ok if he got it all done in a day.

personally i think it would take two days @ 230 a day

Its hard to say without seeing it, but i would say 1 day max.

It sounds like the pipes are already run for the rad, just drain, cap old ones, move rad, re-connect. Putting a sink back to back with another sink (if i understand it correctly) isn't too bad either.

Good man Paddy, read it again, and maybe add in the Plumber bit..

Here in the west, plumbers are flat out. I guess a lot of is to do with the bad weather from last year onto this year again and lots of local water schemes, so they are not council run. I know a lot in the trade and actually a lot in the supplier side over this side, and there busy all year. anyway, not to get off topic. Get recommendations on your plumbers before you start talking daily rates.

200 euro per day, thats 1000 per week for a 5 day week.
Not many people earning 1000 a week these days.
I'd be inclined to price around for a better rate.

Breakdown of working week as percentage
    Surveying & Pricing Work 15%
    Invoicing Vat Bookeeping 10%
    Purchasing Materials 5%
    Productive Time 70%

    Working Week 39 hrs
    Billable Hours 70% 27.3 hrs
    Weekly Gross @ €25/ Hr €682.5

A few weekly Costs there's lots more

    Van Lease €150
    Insurance Tax Van €20
    P&E Insurance €25
    Tools & Equipment €15
    Diesal €100
    Total Costs €310

    Weekly Pay before tax €372.5
    Annual Salary before Tax €19370

Try working on christmas day ,with no pay ,just to look after your customers as part of your guarantee.

You've no idea what it's like to run a business ,neither does anyone who makes comments like that.

Im in a trade myself and no one prices by the hour, surely you price by the job, thus including the few hours you spent pricing the job and getting the materials into the price.

And if your leasing a van for 150 a week, you need to get on done deal. How many miles are you driving to burn 100 worth of diesel?

Are you people for real - €200 per day for a plumber. Those are the kind of ridiculous prices that people were paying during the boom years that added to all the current problems with the housing market f.f.s.

I know a fair few plumbers (had started a plumbing apprenticeship myself about 10 years ago - stuck at it for a year) and NONE of them are getting them rates. In fact those who are working are just happy to be pulling home about 500-600 a week.

I would say the work the OP is looking to get done will take 2 days max at €130 a day (again MAX). If someone quotes you more than that I'd be looking elsewhere.

Do you have your own VAT registered company?

    Did you finish your apprenticeship?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 103 ✭✭Enter Username

Nope, didn't finish apprenticeship - moved out of the trade industry altogether.

    pulling home 600 a week?

    happy days. i am jealous.

    johnny has it right.

some posters here confuse take home pay with income and ignore the wild difference between the two.

honestly you'd swear there was no costs at all according to some:rolleyes:

these threads can become a pointless endeavour, sorry not you op i think you got the right answer at 200. Those of you opting for the 100 mark can take your chances out on the plains.......

You can roll your eyes all you want, I completely understand the difference and I am saying that a plumber making 1500 quid before tax is crazy money and could not possibly continue being normal rates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭slavetothegrind

    how did 200 a day x 5 make 1500?

this assumes 5 days productive and ignores the time spent ordering and collecting stuff, chasing money, warranty callbacks.

Start subtracting costs from this gross figure before you start deducting taxes and i don't think it extortionate in the slightest.

charging 100 euro a day i can safely say i would be better off on the dole.

anyway i've had a beer and maybe not the best time to be posting so good night all!!

Thats a pitty mate. I actually wanted to be a sparks but ended up a plumber, glad now because there are thousands of sparks and hundreds on the dole.

If your working for yourself ,every weeks work is costing you at least 3 days to look at work and call backs.

You'll never get pound for pound working for yourself ,it's always going to cost you time to look at work and the occasional call back.

For every 4 or 5 jobs guys look at ,some are lucky to get one or two jobs. It's soul destroying spending hours with people on the phone and pricing goods ,to be just forgotten about and your time lost. But thats part of the job and you get on with it ,along with all the other ****ty jobs you have to do to keep people happy.

Grin and bare it ,hoping someone appreciates your work.

It's worse if you employ some people.

    Plumber on €35000 per year

    Annual holidays 28 days
    Bank Holidays 10 days

    28 + 10 = 38
    52 * 5 = 260 weekdays days
    260 - 38 = 222 working days
    222 / 5 = 44 working weeks

    €35000 / 44 = €795
    Billable hours per week 30
    €795 / 35 = €26.50

Now if you get €25 per hour there is only going to be one outcome.
