Undertones and MAC

    Are you pink or yellow?

I'm asking because - frankly - I think the girls on the MAC counter in BT's seriously have something against yellow undertone products.

I KNOW I'm yellow undertoned, albeit I'm quite pale (NC15 and it still isn't light enough!) - I've been matched with NC products at MAC counters in other countries.
But, for some reason MAC dublin abruptly tell me that NC is the incorrect shade - Its happened on more than one occasion - I have bought NW and N products too, but they are meh.

How they can do this without looking at my colouring without makeup -well, im not sure?

They also try sell shades that are like 2 shades too dark. NW25? Come on. Why?

    What training have these people?

On the subject of shades too dark - I have this amazing foundation from Dior(forever 010) which I lost on a night out. I bought it and was matched by a lady (a lovely lady!) on the dior counter in debenhams. Went to replace it in BT's, and the snooty girl informed me "there is no way youre a 10. its far too light. the 20 is more suited". I insisted that 010 was my shade, that was teh shade i wanted to replace and she actually just dismissed me. She poured a little of the 10 into a dior tester thing and told me to come back if i was happy with it - but in her opinion it wouldnt suit me.

    :(

Whatever happened makeup to blend into your natural skin tone?

The training they get is actually very good. It's just that most of them don't listen and have their own ideas. Also, a lot of Irish people tend to go for a darker tone than their skin tone but I would have always advised them on one to match their own colour. If they argued with me, I'd say fair enough. I actually had to paint half a girls face yellow before she believed me that the colour didn't suit her.

I wear NC15 make-up myself but one of the trainers put NC30 on me before. I pointed out I looked yellow!

It's hit and miss on any make-up counter to be honest. Stick to your guns and get the shade which you think suits you. A good tip is to find one of the girls who has paler skin. She will feel your pain and tend not to over oragnify you. (Yes, I made that word up!)

On this subject. Am I right in thinking that pink type skin is generally considered "cool" and yellow type skin is considered "warm", everywhere except MAC, I'm getting very confused!
Generally I like to go half a shade darker the my skin, just because I do look to pale otherwise. I suppose as I never let my face see the sun it's a bit paler then what naturally suits me!

I just googled mac skin tones and this helpful article popped up!

You should use bronzer and/or blusher to bring up your colour rather than going for a darker tone. (sorry, just had to say it!)

Ha, I'm considering Revlon Colorstay in Buff to be my darker foundation in my defence. I have Ivory too, I switch between the two, depend on the day!

Was just watching a Makeup Artist on TV today and she had visa versa names. Also for hairdressers use the other way too I'm pretty sure :O
    Ahhhhhhhhh
