    short answer is yes.
but it is a matter of how close the fox is to ensure a quick kill. i would say 40-50 yards.
its not nice when you go up to a fox that you shot only to find it still alive not to mention cruel.

i used a .22 magnum for years but to be honest even that is not enough.
as soon as i could i bought a .223 for fox and in my opinion there should be a min of a hornet for fox but that's just my opinion.

Wouldn't go out looking for a fox with one, but if I happened across one I needed to kill and all I had was a .22, then if I felt comfortable about taking the shot, I'd take it.

I would say minimum of magnum, it's already the case in a lot of firearms districts in England...

For serious hunters you should be looking at centrefire for fox, for the farmer that might take the odd fox the magnum is about perfect for their needs...

But on the whole, I agree with Paulo

22lr is not worth a fxxk for foxes. Range is extremly limited. Max 80yds.
    I had a 22lr for 5months then upgraded to a 223.

A lot of foxes are shot within 80 yards...............especially if you're good enough to get them in that close ;)

The only time a 22 lr should be used for foxes is short range with velocitors or stingers max 60 yards, I have shot them with a 22lr but only with great discipline so as not to wound un necessarily and make lamp shy as soon as I could I got a magnum and then my hornet which is ideal for foxes over the fields I shoot.

Technically a .22lr can dispatch a fox but there is a lot better rounds out there for the job , There is many thinks you have to take into account such as kinetic energy the fact that some thing may be done does not mean it should be done .But if you were to try shooting foxes i would definitely be moving from subs to high velocity . Even then the shot will have to be near perfect to avoid run off .

I have shot foxes with .22 but only at very short ranges 50yrs and a well placed shot, but that was a long long time ago and centerfire rifles where near impossible to get.
