coolio, thanks and interesting enough stuff. Note: an error exists in your link to his Wikipedia and Discogs entries.

Looking forward to this and it should be well worth the trip up from Waterford I reckon.

I posted this over on the off-topic thread but it's prob got lost among the creaming over Joan Burton posts :p ... if any folks are going to this little night on the town and were into a few squirts beforehand then if a local wishes to nominate a time and venue then mayhap we'd have a mini boards night out.

Not looking good for me - currently two problems, babysitter and lack of funds!

We actually joked before about having a crèche in the side room of the venue, looks like it definitely would have come in handy :(
Hope you can still make it man

gonna be leaving Waterford shortly to head to Dubtown for this. Looking forward to meeting up with folks along the way. I'd not know many of the Dublin heads so say hi if you see the middle aged metal head in the Meshuggah tee swaying to the beats.

Here's hoping CJ plays 'Living On A Prayer' :D

    Party on, Mick

Not going to make it to this, the forces of mature life have got in the way of the pursuit of a past youth :(

Anyway, tell CJ I said hello and ask him to play this for me :pac:

Great night in the Button Factory last night. Well worth coming out of retirement for. Sounds were top class. Some serious evil techno from CJ Bolland. Props to all involved.

Absolutely brilliant night one of the best ive had in a long time, the crowd and music were amazing.

I caught some of Pierce Rooneys set and it was top notch, Frank De Wulf came on, didn't play as hard as i thought he would but nevertheless played a really good set but CJ Bolland  fuc*ing wow, slamming in yer face grinding Techno i can safely say ive not heard a Techno set as good in years probably since the late 1990's, he absolutely destroyed the place playing tunes from the legendary labels Bonzai and R & S amongst others,it was relentless no let up absolutely slamming, ive always rated CJ Bolland but after last night id rate him in the top 5 Techno DJ's ever, and his mixing was of the highest quality, Belgian Techno is what it's at,the crowd absolutely loved it, the atmosphere was superb from start to finish and the club was packed.

Serious Techno rinsed out i absolutely loved it, massive respect to Earwiggle and everyone else involved in last night,it was a success from start to finish, fu*k me CJ Bolland knows how to work a crowd big time.

I'll upload some videos i took in a while.

    :)

just home ..... that was indeed a brilliant night on the town, excellent music from start to finish. I enjoyed Pierce Rooney's set, was happy enough with Frank De Wulf and wowed by CJ Bolland. Nice chilled crowd too which is always a plus.
Many thanks to the earwiggle folks for organising a great event. The little bits of occasional info leading up the night were a cool touch.

Thanks to everyone that came in on Friday, and made it the truly great night that it was.
So many highlight moments from CJ, Frank and Pierce, and it gave us particular pleasure to do a gig like this that brought together some of the best of old skool techno, house, hardcore and trance in one night. CJ and Frank were blown away by the response they received in Dublin for this gig, as you could probably see for yourselves!

Special mention to Kun Kontrol for his amazing work on visuals on the night; he was totally clued into what we were looking for, and between him and the venue lighting engineer (Andy we think?) they couldn’t have done better.

There are already a lot of wicked videos making their way up to Youtube and we're just in the middle of uploading our own stockpile too. Look out for videos from the night by ‘Deza808’ especially, they have come out brilliantly!!

A lot of people have asked us when the next Earwiggle show of this type will be on next; the answer is that we don't know exactly, but we definitely have plans to do something there again and already have a lineup or two in mind. We will of course keep you all updated! (don’t forget that we are at The Underground @ Kennedy’s with Perc, Smear and Giles Armstrong on Feb 25th which promises to be another blinder).

Finally, to answer another question – the sets WERE recorded and provided approval comes from each of the DJs on the night, the sets will be broadcast on 2FM very soon, and presumably be made available in some shape or form after that too.

So, once again thanks to all that came along and brought proper vibes to the dancefloor. Reeeeespect ;)

Keep up the good work Earwiggle team :)

Frank was mixing classic after classic in the same key, basically making bootleg mashups on the spot.

Then CJ especially was (as usual) belting out a fantastic set. really looking forward to hearing those sets again - Haven't heard "electric deluxe" out in a looong time. The visuals/lights complimented every epileptic seizure track to a T :)

Ha, remember CJ walking up and down the stage shouting "You think God belongs only to you!" And by the way, what was that last *blinding* techno track he played just before slowing it down at the end before capricorn 20 hz?? He always plays it anytime he's over here (that and the prophet). Must get a copy of that set to try to finally ID that one :)

Obviously being an old fogey i love Old Skool but It's not just old skool it was the calibre and choice of DJ's that people are raving about, you always have the same old skool nights in Dublin which mostly consist of Sides/Asylum/Ormond/Temple/Olympic classics but it becomes tiresome listening to the same tunes all the time, some of the tunes ive heard at this (Belgian Techno) ive literally not heard in years it was a breath of fresh air going to an old skool night and hearing this.:)

You hit the nail on the head there Johnny. My thoughts exactly. Plenty of times meself and the brother just looked at each other when a tune was being mixed in with a "no way" kind of look on our faces:eek::eek:. Wicked night.

Ah would yiz stop, I'm still feckin raging I didn't get to this - and to hear all the talk of him playing old lesser played techno makes me even more :( I swear, when I missed him play in about 95 I was gutted and I'm gutted again now. I used to play the sh1t out of his DJ Kicks years ago, was a huge favourite for me back then...

    http://www.discogs.com/CJ-Bolland-DJ-Kicks/release/2796

So what other legends would people like to see play again? Others that don't typically play these days that were well known back then? For me I'd like to see any of the below play a set like they did then... to name a few anyway!

Justin Robertson / Billy Nasty / Eric Powell / Andy Weatherall / Darren Emerson / John Aquaviva

Weatherall is playing for Big Dish Go on March 4th (I think) in Kennedy's actually.

Eric Powell could do something interesting maybe but not sure how active he is, or how much interest there would be. Maybe we could just organise a boxing match between him and Dave Clarke over the rights to the Red series, am sure people would go to that?!

Nasty would be the last dj we'd consider of booking for a host of reasons. Good dj back in the day, but we like to book people that still appear to take their audience and craft seriously. He has let down a lot of people here in recent years.

Actually a small little gig with Acquaviva would be awesome.
Emerson playing stuff like he did on his 'Psychotrance' cd would be wicked.

We have a few plans for sure, not necessarily involving the names mentioned, but you should be into them when we put together :)

Yeah I heard some bad things alright in recent years about him and his attitude, awful shame as he was one of the best back then. From what I can remember the Temple of Sound had pretty much exclusive rights to him for a couple of years around the mid 90s... and any night he played there you were guaranteed a bloody good night.

Funny you mention that Emerson Psychotrance mix, I had only been listening to that a couple of weeks ago and was what inspired me to mention him for an oldskool techno set, great mix. As is the Eric Powell one too actually.

I'm gonna give Andy Weatherall another chance, last time i seen him in Leeds in 2009 @ Back II Basics 18th party he played stuff i wasn't into at all, abstract film music is the only way you could describe it, i was very dissapointed,i was expecting a lot more as Weatherall on his day was probably the best DJ in the world,so im hoping he redeems himself in Dublin,he is actually playing in Basics next Sat and i may head along if i can.

Pity about Billy Nasty as he was a total legend in Dublin in the 1990's.

do you guys only book Techno DJ's too?

I love my Techno but House is and always has been no 1 with me, would love to see some promoter bringing over some legends like Danny Rampling or Graeme Park.:)

folks, here is the track - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNVkzGbGvk8 (start at around 50 seconds). I asked CJ on the night - he said its a green vinyl apparently on Bonzai records but didn't know the name.. If you can ID this one I'd be much obliged!

It has been mostly techno alright. House wise we'd be more likely to go after one of the old acid house producers more so than Rampling or Graeme Park..
