    Hi there,
I realize this may be far too elementary for this forum, but I need some help.
I've just moved to a new flat, and am puzzled about the timers on both the storage heater and the water heater. Please help.
I've attached pics of the timer panels for each. The water heater is first. I understand the boost function, but how to set the timer?
The second is the storage heater. The timer is in the fuse/breaker box for the apt, not on the unit. The unit only has one dial, showing "output" and goes 1-6. I don't get what the -4 to +4 scale is about. Anyone know how this works? I can't seem to make sense of it.

    Thanks for your help!

    :)

as far as i know the setting of the q7 timer is done via dip switches on the inside of the clock.

Hi Greenasil. User manual for the water heater attached.

AFAIK storage heaters come on at night i.e heats the bricks inside the radiators. The output labeled 1-6 I assume relates to how much heat is released from the rads over the course of the the day, 1 being the lowest and 6 the highest. The -4 to +4 scale I'm not too sure. Can you take a clearer photo as its a bit difficult to make out?

    K.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Thanks to kkelly77 for the water heater info. The clock had been set wrong, and I've fixed that. Will see if we have hot water tomorrow. (fingers crossed) The boost was able to get it warm enough today, but I'd rather the timer do the work.

I am posting a better pic of the storage heater control. At the moment, both dials are set to the middle of the range (I think).
On the unit itself, there is an input and output dial, both 1-6 range. I was told to leave the input high, and set output in the middle. The room is still cold though, and I don't think any heat is coming from the unit. (it feels cold to the touch anytime I check it).
Ideas on what I need to try to get the heat in the sitting room working?

    Thank you again!

I found another thread on boards which gives some good information about storage heating - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056021766

In summary, the thermal blocks inside the heaters heat up at night. How hot they get is determined by the dial labeled 'NIGHT'. The amount of heat given off by the radiators during the day is determined by the dial labeled 'DAY'.

Obviously you can increase or decrease these settings by turning the dials higher or lower Be aware though, if you turn up the dial 'DAY' then the radiators will lose heat more quickly and you could possibly run out of heat before the end of the day. The same applies for the dials on the storage heaters themselves. Keep Input high and Output somewhere in the middle. If the storage heater isn't giving off heat it may be broken and that requires a phone call to your landlord to sort out.

Some storage heaters have a type of blower heater on them that blow out hot air should it be too cold. However these can see your ESB bill sky rocket if they're in use all the time. Unfortunately storage heaters aren't the most efficient or most convenient heating system. Hope this helps anyway.

Thank you again for the help, and the link to the other discussion.
I think I have this figured out a bit better.
Trouble is that now I can see that the heater is charging in the afternoons, not at night. (I have seen its red charging light on the 710-2 on in the 4pm-9pm times the past 2 days).
I found another thread in electrical that brings up the same issue here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=70004002
Any thoughts from you here in heating on the response offered? I hope to reach my landlord tomorrow to start looking into this new mystery.
    cheers,
    greenasil
