    Hi everyone,

I am about to see a 2002 car for sale. It is a private sale. It is an automatic car but it is reported as manual in free motorcheck details and 123.ie when I enter registration number. Rest of the details(color, number of doors, make, model) are correct there.

I am planning to check engine and chassis number with car beside motorcheck report before buying it.

Could you point any other problems I may have if I buy car with this inconsistency in records. NCT, insurance, etc ?

If I see same inconsistency in vehicle registration document, should I run away ?

    hi Kerten,

It may be that the vehicle was uploaded incorrectly to the National Vehicle File. Do you know if it was imported from the UK?

be sure to get the Chassis number on the car and compare it to what's on file on the Motorcheck database. Also, it depends on the manufacturer, but some chassis numbers will indicate whether the vehicle was originally built as an automatic or manual.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks Motorcheck,

Don't know if it is a import or not. will query this one. possibly will see in motorcheck report.

I'll certainly check chassis number if I decide to buy the car.

I wonder if it cause me any issue during NCT test or insurance claim.

Is it easy thing to change this kind of detail in national vehicle database assuming it is genuine mistake during registration ?
