2003 Megane Handbrake Problem

    Hi,

I'm having issues with my 03 Megane's handbrake. Its one of the aeroplane lever types (see pic below if I can attach properly!). It take about three lifts for it to catch and the button has not been working for some time.

My NCT tomorrow will obviously pick this up but I'm pre-empting having to get this fixed for a repeat NCT!

Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

PS This fix needs to cheap as chips as I'm not putting too much back into this car. My mechanic has suggested replacing the whole thing for about 350 for parts alone but I cannot go this route to be honest.

Suspicion there would be that the button mechanism is somewhat stuck, you'd need to disassemble it and find out why. Could be as simple as a twisted or caught spring.

That is, when you push the button to release the catch, that works fine, but then the catch isn't returning to the normal position when you release the button again. Fairly simple mechanism, the hardest part would be disassembling it.
