I went to book a NCT online for my new car, but was warned there was a fine because the previous owner didn't show up for a test.

Do I take my log book and prove it wasn't me and avoid the fine, or do I have to pay?

    Thanks.

Just ring them up and explain the situation, make your booking over the phone. They will waive the fee.

As has been said show them proof of change of ownership and tell them it's up to them to chase the previous owner. I had a similar prob with motor tax fines ac crewed by the previous owner many years ago. I refused to pay the fines as they had nothing to do with me. They then accepted that position.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

The person who booked the car in for the NCT entered a contract with the NCT. Only that person can be held to the terms and conditions of the contract.
