Comparing to UK (162000) it sounds like we live in an iceage here ...
What do you think whats the main reason for that ?

selling through ebay is difficult, time consuming, full of time wasters, not particularly profitable and generally just messy.

specially when i can get way more exposure for a fraction of the cost on donedeal.

    Donedeal.

Less effort + less cost = more sensible approach to selling

We're not in the ice age, just not completely under the control of the global leader. The same as it is not a negative that Supermacs holds it's own in the face of McDonald's there is nothing bad about Irish cars going through donedeal.ie or carzone.ie instead of eBay. It's not as if we're still all buying cars through the back pages of a free local newspaper.;)

And its not only with the cars, looks like ebay isnt very popular in Ireland at all, when the whole modern world uses it ...

    In US ?

The prices are more friendly in Ireland :)

So i dont think thats an excuse where people get paid way more than in US ...

Carzone offers something better for they money they charge ?

Ebay offers also classified adds option and i bet many cars would go to UK/NI if the price was right

No need to put regular Irish cars on ebay as they can be got cheaper elswhere never mind shipping etc. I wouldn't bother putting a car on ebay unless it's something exotic, rare or unusual. I certainly wouldn't be throwing up a Focus/ Corolla on it.

Donedeal the tkmaxx of car selling. Go looking for something but end up sifting through a load of shi7# that have nowt to do with what your looking for. As for selling I would suggest getting a second mobile otherwise your phone will be full of texts from lowballers offering half what you are looking for or swap for something straight out of our scangermobile thread. :)

Shows there may be a need for a Done Deal type format in the UK.

Well ... IMO donedeal sucks with its search engine.
i type in Audi, and all the rubbish where is mentioned "audi" comes up, fiestas, corollas, hondas, steering wheels, HID KITS and all RUBBISH im not after

But i already see most people like it and dont complain ...
For me it seems like people have TOO much time in theyr hands and accept that format ...

Ebay charges for the convenience of selling to the world. And our cars aren't competitive outside of Ireland due to VRT.

The likes of donedeal and adverts are only usable to a certain degree of items and visits. Then a large overhaul is needed. So they work well for the small enough market of Ireland but might not work as well if 20 times the size.

Seems like Ebay Motors isn't successful anywhere! They've double the traffic of donedeal for a massive multiple of population.

What are the figures for carzone.ie perchance?

    I dont get it actually.
The case is that the traffic is double but at the same time vehicles sold way higher amount which can be also calculated i think ?

Then the unique visitor thing ...
On ebay most people are registered when people arnt on donedeal.
After every restart or modem failure you becoming a "unique" visitor again. Very common with USB modems, when the modem fails 10-20 times a day ...

Most people's experience of eBay is using it to bid on something online in some remote part of the world that they won't even lay eyes on until it arrives 3 weeks later. And even though it's actually pretty safe, there's always the wonder if it might be a scam. Nobody is going to buy or sell a car like that.

I'm sure cars are treated differently by eBay, that they have mechanisms for direct contact with the seller, viewing and test driving etc. And if they handle the payment processing then that would be a bonus for both sides. But I'm only guessing they do these things, and with good sites already out there like donedeal and carzone I've no real incentive to check it out. If they want to succeed they really need to advertise the service and highlight these differences.

Afaik in eBay US it seems quite "normal" to sell cars there (dealers, private, classified and auctions), but one large land mass with a populace use to buying online/mail order in general thats not surprising.

As to why Donedeal is so popular (I use it myself admittedly) I imagine the complete open ended nature, no real moderation, fees and very very basic (therefore fast to list) requirements for details is basically "why".

I don't think these reports are very accurate. It is based on American panels of users. Theres no way they can report actual visitors to a site.
