Desire HD and 3 Ireland. Not switching back to 3G

Anyone else have this issue? Have to say it's really pissing me off now. My little daughter is in hospital (and I'm in all day with her) so the phone is getting near permanent internet, twitter, facebook, email, games etc use.

Seems when the signal gets a bit bad it switches over to 2G but never switches back. So every hour or so I have to do a manual network search and reregister on 3 Ireland. Straight away the 3G network comes back up.

In general how are prople finding 3 Ireland on the HD. I'm noticing quite a few dropped calls, not making a connection when I dial, lost audio during a call even where there is strong signal. My 14-day cooling off ends on Saturday so I'm seriously thinking of returning the phone at this stage. Might just play it safe and go with Vodafone even though the nearest plan to what I'm on with 3 Ireland will set me back another €20 a month with Vodafone.

    Any ideas?

PS: Meteor are another option. Do they still have that 3G bug where you had to restart the phone to reconnect?

I have no problems like that on mine but I'm Vodafone so that doesn't really help you. Get well soon to your child.

Yes I left 3 because of this problem. Smartphones simply do not work on their network, switch to Meteor. This has been going on since march 2010, and 3 don't even acknowledge the problem.

I presume the Meteor smartphone issue is fixed?

Good to hear feedback from different operators. It'd be great if you could post in this poll. Cheers!

Hey, think l've the same problem. Using a Samsung Galaxy Tab on 3. Phone drops reception but doesn't pick back up the 3g network, have to search for the network myself to get back on the 3g network. Got on to them and they told me to reset the phone, which I'm not keen on doing.

p.s love the phone and its alto cheaper than else where so won't be moving.

My desire works flawlessly on 3 switching. What the Op is describing is common enough with three iPhone4 users. There's a long thread in the apple media devices with many posts on this topic. Three support do seem to be able to do something with users profiles to fix this.
It might be worth moving thus thread to the three forum on boards.
