I would recommend a yamaha pacifica 112 great guitars for the price. Got one myself and is lovely to play and built well they generally receive good reviews online. Nothing wrong with the les paul I also own a epiphone les paul standard. I would not really bother with a bolt on neck les paul if your heart is set on one add 50 quid to the price of the one in the waltons link and get a epiphone les paul standard in black or even a vintage les paul both on thomann.de.

Just wondering has anyone got any recommendations on what to look for, the type of music i like would be along the lines of springsteen and gaslight anthem stuff, i've been lookin at this http://www.thomann.de/ie/fender_squier_std_telecaster_rw_vb.htm
anyone heard anything about them or got any other suggestions around this price range?

When you want to buy new. Pacifica. When you want to buy used, scour adverts. Stay away from epiphones unless its a semi hollow(for some reason they have better build quality).

Also please god stay clear of waltons. Try musicstore.de thomann.de or adverts.ie(for second hand stuff).

Defo go for something like a fender strat or something similiar if your a begginner as its alot more user friendly when sitting down practicing than a les paul shaped guitar.

Hi mate .I dont think you should get a fender at first start out small finish big if youve already played acoustic before or are a complete beginner then i recommend a second hand guitar ,if you live in dublin i have my electric guitar with amp for sale for 90/80 euros its good for a beginner and i barely used it because personally i seem to play better with acousticc reply if intersted.Hope i helped
