Does anyone know if the new changes to tax relief applies to students enrolled this year?
I am due to pay €3,500 and now i see under the new finance bill you will only get tax relief on fees paid over €2,000 which would mean Id only get 20% x 1500 = 300 as opposed to 20% x3,500 =700!!
400 is way too much to lose!

thank for help, have looked on the web and it doesnt say if it applies from sat on or not:(

I reckon you'll be okay if you're claiming for the tax year 2010.

Well if it works the way the tax relief on health expenses does, you'll be grand. With the health expenses you're entitled to claim for either the year the treatment was carried out or the year it was paid for. I'd assume its the same for college fees. How'd you get away with not paying yet?

You can claim the 2010/11 fee relief back as you have the option of either selecting the 2010 or 2011 tax year to do so - I'm guessing the 2010 tax year is more beneficial as the rules are changing!

Did Lowery & Healy-Rae squeeze a concession out of Lennie in the recent shenanigans about the Finance Bill. Anyone have the details?
