No Audio from laptop ? Conexant Problem.

Hi all

I have a lovely Compaq Presarion C700 that a friend gave me to repair.
I have re-loaded Windows XP on to it.

The only problem is the on-board audio chip, from Conexant systems has
decided to stop working.

I have installed Microsoft UAA driver for high definition audio.

I have tried to install the Conexant driver package, I got this from the HP
support website.

I cannot complete the installation of these drivers, the process stops
and I get a message saying could not find MEDIA device.

Today I am getting the message :

Bad Direcct Sound driver installed. Please install proper drivers or selecct
another device. Error code 88780078

Wanting to keep it Irish, I tried a search on boards.ie but could not find
any solutions.

Anyone know how to fix this?

reboot ,then install the conexant driver.is the os windows xp.

Thank you very much for your help.

The WiSVHe5.inf driver in that archive is the one I needed.

I found links to expired and unavailable copies of this archive hosted
on file sharing services, but the file had always been faulty.
