lads I have to send my iphone 4 back to apple as the sleep button will not work.

The phone was jailbroke with lime rain ra1n and unlocked with ulta sn0w firmware 4.0.1.

I connected the iphone to itunes hit update to 4.2.

Now the phone is stuck in "connect to itunes screen"

and a window in itunes pops up error 1013 and will not restore connect to itunes:confused:

have ya downgraded it previously, if so the hosts file is probably still edited to bypass apple's server
ya might want to go to the limera1n app and remove it aswell

    What is your current firmware?

I downgraded from 4.2.1 to 4.1 and done the original greenp0isin jailbreak.

Are you looking to restore and jailbreak? or just restore the phone so you can send it back to apple. If it's the latter try this.

As others have mentioned just to itunes and restore as normal. once you get your 1013 error, just click ok and get the following program (looking for the name of it, ill edit in a few mins ) to "kick" the phone out of DFU mode. Then the phone should boot ok and your phone on the current firmware.

PROGRAM is called RecBoot but in your case google it for the mac

there is a shift restore that you can dl the version of ios you like, and click on shift then update in itunes (for windows anyway)

    http://iphoners.org/update-iphone-shift.restore/

(thought cant immediately see where to dl the 4.x from their site)

Jail breaking is not illegal - I think you could send it back jail broken.

My mate had this exact problem on Sunday and this sorted it for him. It's defo your hosts file.

Guil and IamMetalDave are right, it is your hosts file. Easiest way to fix is to open up tinyumbrella and in the options, uncheck "set hosts on exit" or something like that, Then close tinyumbrella. Should sort you out!
