Need to rent a place in Spain for 3 to 6 months for rest and recuperation

Somewhere quite rural would be great

For a country deep in recession a quick online search brings up some extraordinarily high prices, to be expected I guess

A small 2 bedroom cottage or the like, for 1000 euros or less (hopefully less) per month... anyone had any experience or can point me to some sites which offer this?

Just something with a garden and out of the way if possible

    thanks guys

I recommend the link above. I was in Spain before (Madrid, Barcelona) and those cities are cheaper than Ireland, need I say the rural parts of Spain. I definitely think you should get a place less than €1,000 a month.

Well, we were looking for somewhere in Casares town. These people were good to deal with. Not sure if any of the ones online at the moment are what you are looking for, but if you were interested in the area you could drop them an email and say what you’re looking for.

I know there are some there for Duquesa, which sounds absolutely the opposite of what you are looking for, but don’t be put off. The Gemal and Guadiaro valleys would probably be more what you were looking for.

Renting a holiday home for 6 months can be a daunting task. I've done it but you need to take a few things into consideration:-

    1. Value for money. Do you like the destination/resort? How far is it from the airport? Do I need to bring/rent a car? Can I speak the language? How far is the nearest good supermarket? Is there English speaking television? Is it too isolated? Is the destination too crowded?

    2. Committing yourself to 6 months rental might prove expensive if you learn that you dont like the area/people/climate etc.

    Recommendations:-

    (a) Initially just rent for say 4 weeks. Try and keep an option for longer rental (say a further 4/6 weeks).

    (b) Ensure your chosen destination will be somewhat sunny. Bring as manybooks as you can. Make friends with your own kind of person. Keep an open mind.

    (c) Access to airport is important so check out local transport. Ensure the airport is served by Aer Lingus or Ryanair. A choice of airports is better.

    (d) Medicare - Know where the local Medical Centre is and what it is called in say Spanish (Centro Médico). Bring your EHIC card for free medical aid from qualified doctors/nurses.

    (e) On-the-level walking is important especially if you are recovering from an operation.

    (f) Boredom, do you know how not to be bored? Television, Radio, ipod, books can help. Better again ensure you have neighbours whom you can visit and they can visit you.

    Hi there OP...

You can get houses for rent long term in spain for a lot less that 1000 PM, in fact most probably less that what you would pay for rent here, if i was you i would check out some of the local forums, i can send you the link to some if you want to drop me a PM, because most of them have property for sale / rent sections and because they cut out the middle man are usually cheaper to rent off, but make sure you get a proper legal contract signed before you hand over any cash. The renter in spain has a lot more rights than you might think, its makes our property rental system laughable :(
