Benatone Problem

OK so i have been thru all the other threads on benatone oil burners and i cant find a problem like mine so here goes.
I ran out of oil once or twice before so after topping up and turning the burner back on it locks out so resetting it a couple of times sorts it out, grand.
But this time it keeps on locking out, so i bit the bullet and called a tech out to take a look at it.
You see when i turn it on every thing works fine for about 5 or 10 mins and then a couple of clicks and it lock out, it even starts to heat the rads and water.
The tech fella changed the nozzle, control box, solenoid, fire valve, checked oil pressure from pump while running and it stayed constant at 10 bar all the way to lock outboiler has also been bled and he done a test outside at the flue and everything was normal.
He couldnt fix there and then so im left with no heating but he reckons it could only be the pump.
With the price of that and call out and refitting id nearly be as better off as buying a brand new burner(exact make/model)and fit my self.
Im at my wits end is there anything else i can try cos its feckin freezing and with all the electric oil rads plugged in im dreading next months electric bill.
    Cheers

I presume its the oil pump he's talking about changing. If its staying at a constant 10 bar then pump might not be problem but if it's old then it can sometimes stick when it gets hot. Taking pump apart and spraying with WD40 might get you going again. Did he clean photocell? When burner runs out of oil the photocell can get sooted up.
Before burner goes to lockout, is fan still running and is it trying to fire up intermittently? If it is then it could be oil pump.
You need to be confident with the internals of the burner before taking it apart.

that must have been some bill, changed an awful lot of gear.
for the price of a solenoid you are close to the price of an oil pump which comes with a solenoid

pump is sticking imo, when you run low/out of oil you can take in the sediment and water at the bottom of tank, small amounts of water will cause the pump to cease intermittently. get your 'tech' guy to take off pump and turn amature by hand you will feel a grating as you turn it.

check the you are only using an 'oftec' registered engineer.

I would take oftec with a pinch of salt. they are more interested in recruiting fees? than ensuring the industry is well organised. Find a competent engineer by speaking to friends and neighbours. There are always burners that are difficult to diagnose but a good engineer will have spares because some jobs are trial and error, when you get the exact symptons that usually mean a particular part is at fault and its not. It may not be the burner, is the electric supply ok, is the pump ok. have you changed oil suppliers,
