    Hi all,

Just thought it might be a good idea to take a poll of Android users based on their experiences with the different operators. I'm thinking of buy one myself and aside from the different phone prices and monthly plans, I'm interested in which operators are pushing updates as soon as they're available or providing support for any issues.

Would also be useful to post your phone model, android version and operator.

    Cheers,

    M

Any chance A mod could sticky this? There's a lot of discussion in the android forum on operator feedback!

With 3 Ireland but returning the phone under the 14 day cooling off. The phone is not switching back to 3G once it switches over to the Vodafone 2G network. It's a common issue apparently but is a pain in the arse.

I got the 1.32 firmware update OTA the day I got my DHD from Meteor (one of the last two weekends in November, can't remember which!)

I haven't gotten any updates since. I emailed HTC regarding the 1.7x firmware. They said it has been pulled for the time being because of a few glitches and will be back soon.

But I suppose I have to give my feedback on the one update. No problems with Meteor in that regard, but I will wait and see when HTC push out the updateed 1.7x firmware, and see if Meteor push it out immediately.

Is the firmware separate to the Android Version?

    What's OTA?

As other people have stated, your poll does not make sense. Meteor do not offer any updates, the updates come directly from the manufacturer. This is true for any "unbranded" phone. It's too confusing to vote now.

tl;dr: 3s network does not work. Meteor's does. Dunno about the others. Vodafone and 3 sell branded phones, which makes updates late or unavailable.

I have a Desire HD from 3 and it had no branding whatsoever on it. Has the HTC boot up screen. Agree that's the 3 network is brutal.

Updated thread title to include firmware feedback.

Who else are you talking about?

    OTA = Over The Air.

Meteor phones are unbranded. The reason some networks eg Vodafone and 3 take a bit longer for updates, is that they want to slip some Vodafone and 3 branding into it before releasing to customers.

But branding seems to be pot luck alright!

Sorry you are correct. Some phones are branded some aren't. Do you get free skype with DHD? The "branding" for 3 usually means a special version of skype, and this is why they delay updates.

I got a Vodafone HTC desire and its totally unbranded. Get the OTA's the second their are out. The phone is 5 months old so maybe its a new thing that Vodafone are branding HTC phones.

Do they not put that vodafone 360 stuff on it? Or is that only in the UK?

Have a HTC Desire on Vodafone from the first week they had them for sale and have gotten every updata as soon as HTC released them so that statement is incorrect.

Have a GT540, got it on 1.6, still waiting for an official update from Meteor to 2.1 which was released to the rest of the world last September, in the meantime I went to the Baltics 2.1 and an unofficial 2.2, unimpressed.

Not incorrect, some of their phones are branded, but good to see your Desire wasn't.

Can they guarantee anything when selling you a phone? Seems a bit lax having a bunch of each?

why on Earth would you wait for a network OTA update when better, faster firmwares are available for months before hand?
