    Hi everyone,
My wedding date is set at 15 Dec 2012.
I'm wondering when should I start trying on dresses and when should I buy?Is there such a time as buying the dress too early???

    Hi,
    Congratulation firstly!

I don't think you can buy too early as long as you're careful. Like if you're weight tends to fluctuate, maybe wait til closer the time. Make sure the shop is one that's likely to survive the year or two before you're wedding so you don't lose a deposit or that.
It might be no harm to look out for sales. That's what I did, got one almost half price. Only disadvantage is that I can't keep looking :) Also, I've to pay someone to do alterations and I'm not sure yet if that's more expensive than shop doing them. Even if it is though, I'll still have made a massive saving.
You might get something reduced and you'd be able to pay upfront and take it home. Just get a size larger to allow for alterations. No harm going round the shops to try different styles but bear in mind if you do end up waiting they'll change. best of luck with it :)

    hi & congrats!
i would think maybe 8 months or thereabouts in advance. i'm only saying this because of my own experience- got engaged in december and set the date for may, i thought i was giving myself plenty of time. but every bridal shop i went to they said i was cutting it very fine. it could take up to 4 months to get your dress, or more with some dresses. after that you would have alterations- that might take some time to get it just right.
no harm in having a look anyway to see what style would suit you best. i thought i had a fair idea of what style i wanted, but got something completely differant in the finish!
    have fun! :)

I would say maybe a year or so. You need to leave youself 6 months for the dress to be made & altered. It may take you a couple of months to find.

Good luck with the shopping by the way!!

It usually takes 6 months for the dress to come into the shop. Leave another 2-3 weeks for alterations. That means you would want to have it ordered about 7 months beforehand so start looking before that!

i'm getting married in August and got fitted for my dress in November just gone. It won't be in until the end of February and then I have to allow time for alterations etc..I'd say a year in advance is loads of time

PS: Try to get a corest dress as any fluctuations in weight won't really matter..zip up dresses are unforgiving;)
