So, I had been planning on getting a new (used) car this summer.

The clutch on my current car/heap has just started slipping. So, rather than fork out more money on a car I'm going to change in a few months I've decided to get something sooner rather than later.

The only trouble is that I currently only have €2,000 to spend.

I've been looking at Volvo S40s, would love a focus but doubt I'd get one for €2,000. Preferably something with a long NCT.

    All advice/ideas much appreciated.

My current car is a 96 so would like something from the current century with a few modcons.

You could keep an eye on www.donedeal.ie and see if anything pops up that you fancy.

I'd buy private rather than off a dealership as you will probably get a better deal.

    Any engine size in mind?

Thanks, suppose with the budget I have that would be the thing to do.

Had been mainly looking at dealers as at least I'd get some kind of warranty with them.

Would be looking at 1.9 tops. Petrol or diesel.

I'm currently driving a 1.4l 306 so am looking to move from a hatchback if possible.

Also looking for something with a bit more power than the 1.4l I've been driving.

You will not get much warranty on a €2k car from a garage. Dealer cars in this bracket are usually rubbish traded in. You will get much better value buying private, just have a trusted mechanic look the car over before buying.
