Mileage, how high is too high?

Looked at a couple of 4x4's at the weekend that were reasonably priced and mechanically in very good shape but had big miles on the clock. one a 2003 forester had 195K miles and the other a rav4 diesel had 160k miles. The mileage put me off from a resale perspective even though they seem like decent buys besides. you look at diesel audi's, and beemers on the market too and they are all in and around the 150K mark after 7/8 years. Are people today completely put off by that or is it better to judge a car on how well its been looked after and the condition its in after all there are plenty low mileage buckets out there too??

Galactic mileage! I'd run a mile.

Being honest, Id rather a well serviced / logged history high miler, than a low mileage bucket.
My current car has 145k up and chose it over others with half the mileage, because I have every receipt, for money spent on it from day one.

However, most people, just don't get this ---> Keel over when they look at cars with 100k +

ya i went to see the forester on spec and only found out the mileage when i was in it. couldn't fault the car to be honest bar the fact that it had 195K on the clock. my father sold his forester last yera it had 170 on the clock and the thing was perfect bar a bit of wear on the drivers seat, mechanically it was spot on but was minded and had anything done if and when needed. at the price the forester is prob worth a punt but i don't keep cars for long and the worry is i'd be stuck with it in a years time.

+1 on this. As long as the car is serviced regularly and well maintained I wouldn't worry about the high miles. Especially on the Subaru. TBH though I wouldnt entertain a high mileage beemer. Give that one a wide berth.
