The floppy drive on the laptop has stopped working. By that i mean that when a disk is put in it seems to be working but nothing happens like it is not communicating with laptop. When you go into computer it is not showing up. Went into device manager and shows "device cannot start - code 10". I think its a vista problem as had to use vista recovery disk before but cannot even use this now as the floppy isn't reading. Any suggestions?

Read on other forums that if you have itunes on vista it can affect comms with floppy drives and other people have done system restores. Just tried a system restore but would only allow me go back to the start of Jan, anyway it didn't work. Any Suggestions.

Try to uninstall it from the device manager. Restart Vista and it should re-install it for you.

rhonin, sorry for not getting back sooner i was away. Tried to uninstall using device manager and still did not work. By the way i meant to write cdrom drive in heading for previous writer. Might try and swap out the drive with a friends but don't think that will work, still hoping..

most commons machines with a floppy drive get this problem sometime is their lifespam and reason is you havent change your boot sequence in the bios to harddrive as the 1st step because with most machines that have a floppy drive as the 1st step because the who designed the machines boot the os from a floppy and never change boot sequence back from boot to harddrive 1st and enter bios usually keep pressing f2 during the start to enter bios/setup but you must do it b4 you reach windows symbol or else have same process over again, once inside bios/setup change boot sequence to boot from harddrive as the 1st step and saved the changes and then exit bios this problem shouldnt happen again. reason y change boot sequence because everytime you put in a floppy into the drive the machine thinks thinks it wants boot os from floppy drive even so they machine already has booted and change boot sequence to boot from harddrive as the 1st step your computer or laptop will boot whole boot faster.
