Could someone tell me where the best place in Dublin would be to get a replacement Car battery for a Volvo. I am reluctant to go to the main dealer as their prices are most often extortionist. I will replace it myself.

Your nearest motor factors will have one I'm sure.

Halfords is your best place, i needed a new battery for a van i had and because it was a 2.0 tdi it needed a 530Amp bettery, most garages were looking for 70-90 euro but i got one in halfords for 45. Exact same thing at the end of the day!!

I'd try other motor factors before Halfords, I've always found Halfords very expensive for car batteries.

    Thanks guys

the battery keeps dying overnight, and setting the alarm.

Does this sound like it definately needs replacing or is there a chance that the battery is okay and the electrics/ or charger could be faulty?

If your battery is dying then replace it first before seeing if the electrics are dodgy.

Had a similar issue recently where a dying battery was causing wiered steering lock issues. Internet suggested an expensive ECU replacement but a new battery solved the issue. I was almost on the verge of sending the car into that garage which would have been v. expensive.

See this thread, you can get the battery tested if you want to.

I used to get all my batteries in halfords using trade card
In the last while I've got batteries for a micra, 323, and avensis, in all cases my local factors were cheaper.

Axa customers get discount but still dearer than motor factors.

Got a battery for another micra for €35 in halfords as the size was being discontinued. PRevious poster was doing well to get a van battery for €45
