Does anyone know who to contact in regard to making complaints about Sky?

They have really been messing me about since I cancelled Sky last November.

They are regulated by the UK version of Comreg, so maybe them. They tried messing me about when I cancelled at the end of last August. I just kept every bit of correspondence between us and effectively told them I'd see them in court if that's where they wanted things to go. They passed me on to a collection agency, but I just sent a copy of all the correspondence to them too and told them the same thing, I wouldn't be paying so either drop it or go to court. I received a letter from the agency saying they had returned my case file to Sky and were no longer involved, and then I received an email from Sky apologising. In my case when I notified them that I was cancelling from the end of August, I also cancelled the direct debit mandate with my bank. Sky tried to charge me for September, and that's what the problem related to, so I don't know how that matches up to your situation, but they are a bunch of chancers.

    The similarity is uncanny.

    [rant]

23rd November I phoned Sky and cancelled my Irish Subscription.
I asked while on the phone what outstanding charges there were and was told that there weren't any as the last bill have been paid. I queried that and it was confirmed. They said that the account would close on 24th Dec and no further viewing would be available. So I go ahead and cancel the direct debit.

    Great so far.

10th December I get a letter from Sky dated 1st Dec, saying that the last payment was not received and I owed €67.
I immediately contact the accounts department and inform the nice lady on the other end of my discussion with her colleague a couple for weeks before.
She then explained to me that although the system had shown that payment had been made, it hadn't actually left my account and reached them before I cancelled it. Feeling a bit peeved I accepted what she said and told her I would send in a cheque for the outstanding €67. She then told me that could could simply set up the DD again and the €67 would be taken out of my account on the 26th Dec and that would be the end of the matter. I agreed and supplied her with the bank details.

Great, I thought that was the end of the matter.

Receive another letter dated 15th Dec, confirming that the DD has been set up and giving the details used, which are all correct.

Today 24th January, I receive yet another letter, dated 17th January.
This one tells me that 'YOUR FINAL PAYMENT IS NOW DUE' WTF!!

€112.39 for something I have not been watching since 24th December!!!

Back on the phone, Go over it again with another lady, who basically said that they were sorry but the DD wasn't set up correctly so the payment couldn't be taken from my account and they sent me a letter dated 1st December advising me of that fact.
I told her I did not get any letter telling me that the DD had not been set up, but I did get a letter dated 15th December confirming that they had set up the DD.

I basically started to lose my cool a little bit then and informed the lady that as far as I was concerned they had made most of the mistakes leading up this €112.39 and I was not happy, as she could probably tell and that I would be sending in a cheque for the sum of €67 which was the original outstanding amount in full and final settlement (I know I'll have to put it in writing with my reasons) and I would be getting in contact with with with err.. the ombudsman. Thank you and bye!

    Hung up.

    [/Rant]

Have cooled down now, but what a ****ing cheek!!

(Or am I being unreasonable?)

I think you are being perfectly reasonable. You're paying them up to the 24 December, the final date of your subscription as agreed. The rest is due to Sky not ending the subscription when they should have, not your problem. Just make sure to keep every bit of correspondence, and a detailed record of any phone calls, including the full name of who you are dealing with, just in case. From my experience, they will try to bully you, but if you stand your ground and return the favour (I threatened to counter sue for defamation if they continued to claim I was a bad debtor, and went to any third party with the claim) they will back down.

Sent an email to the CEO this morning, outlining what I said in my last post.

Got phone call from Sky half an hour ago.

Don't even have to pay the €67. :D

When you cancel Sky you don't have to cancel your direct debit-it is automatically done by Sky.A lot of people fall into this trap and then end up with threatening letters.
Even so what happened was out of order by Sky as everything seemingly was in order.

Also what is happening a lot is Sales reps signing up existing customers as New customers instead of upgrading them. Which means that the customer has now 2 sky accounts and sky are taking 2 DD payments. Very messy but it is happening.

If you don't cancel the DD, Sky are likely to take more money than they should, and have you jump through hoops to get it back. When I cancelled my Sky sub, I did not cancel the DD until after they had taken the payment for the last month (August). They attempted to take money for September, and that is what they got upset about not being able to get. If I had not cancelled the DD, they would have basically stolen €106 from me, and I would have been the one having to go through a lot of hassle to get it back. As it was, I had no hassle, they threw a hissy fit and then backed down when they realised they weren't going to have their way.

We don't drag up old threads. Additionally, because of the nature of the allegations made, I have had to delete the post above
