...or is one legally obliged to take it if accepted?

Was so sick of sitting around doing nothing before Christmas so I applied. Last night I find out that I'm not supposed to drive unaccompanied with a provisional licence (yes I know, I'm not the sharpest tool) and could get fined up to a thousand quid. I consider myself a very good driver, but now I'm bricking myself if a guard stop me for x or y. Just don't want to take that risk, basically. Would FAS understand me backing out, or in their eyes should I have known about the provisional licence and now have to get there no matter what?! The course starts in February and haven't received any notification that I got it yet.

Nearest public transport goes into the town at 11am, which I assume is long after the course starts in the morning.
