with a new year upon us and golf gearing up for a new season i was wondering if we could start a thread by rating courses we have not played before. marks to be given out of ten for the following:

    1. COURSE LAYOUT
    2. CONDITION OF COURSE
    3. VALUE FOR MONEY
    4. LEVEL OF SERVICE RECEIVED
    5. CHANGING AND SHOWERING FACILITIES
    6. THE 19TH HOLE

i have played mount juliet for the first time and rate as follows

    1 COURSE LAYOUT 8
    2 CONDITION OF COURSE 8
    3 VALUE FOR MONEY 5
4 LEVEL OF SERVICE RECEIVED 4
    5 CHANGING AND SHOWERING FACILITIES 10./ 6 19TH HOLE 7

Welcome Tran. Good idea for a post. We all want to know about a course before we play it. Im not sure if you are aware of it or not, but a regular poster on here wrote a book rating and ranking all the courses in Ireland. He played every 18 hole course in the country that was open at the time (in 2008 I think) and he ranked them using a system very similar to yours. The book he released is called "Hooked" and I recommend it as it also has a write up on each course as well as the ratings he has given for each course so it is a very good source of reference. A lot of the posters on here already have the book and we all agree that the vast majority of the ratings are spot on. He also lists the green fees for each course but I'd take these with a pinch of salt because although they would have been accurate at the time, the prices almost certainly would have come down since then. Anyway, get the book and you will have the ratings for all the courses in Ireland.

thanks thundercat. have read the book. thought the book was great. what i am looking for off this thread is as many views as possible about the courses around ireland. the one drawback of the book is that it is limited to a certain period. green fees are now cheaper as you said .what condition are the courses in now that money is not as plentiful in golf?

Might be nice to include an explanation for some of the numbers given. Like, obviously you weren't happy with the level of service received so maybe you should elaborate on that.
