Sold a digital camera on ebay last month and I got my monthly charges! €49!!!!!!!

Can this be right? I sold the camera for €771

I wont be selling on ebay anymore. The highest it ever was, was about €15 when I sold about 10 games in a month.

I'm guessing you didn't get €771 for the games though. If you don't like eBay's fees, then you should have checked them out before selling. Final valuation fee is 10% of the sale amount, to a maximum of €50. Sounds to me like they didn't charge you enough if they only charged €49.

Nothing can come close to eBay for shear audience numbers, they have an unbeatable number of potential buyers. It's also an auction, so price can raise to any figure. You do pay for the privilege though.

As Jor El said, you get what you pay for.

Ebay is the most popular auction site and if you want to be sure that your item will sell (though you will pay through the nose for the privelege) its the place to go.

The likes of adverts etc just dont have the volumes.

Less likely to have scams going on adverts though, esp. if you are meeting people in person -there is no way I would sell a camera for €700+ on ebay I would be worried senseless!

You do not have the volumes but it is safer IMO and you have far more control over it, i.e. it is not like ebay with an auction, it is more like the reverse, start with a high asking price and let people discuss it and offer lower amounts.

You have less potential buyers so can expect to sell for a lower price -but this might be offset by the lack of fees, e.g. if he sold the camera for 722 here its the same as ebay with the fees. I would suffer a lower profit as a form of insurance against scammers too.
