Replacement Wheel - Scrap yard?

    Hey,
I want to preface this by saying that i know Jack Schidt about cars, so i would really appreciate your help, and really appreciate it if you could give me the "idiots guide". I have an 06 Mondeo. There is a crack in one of the wheels, so i am looking for a replacement. Someone recommended the scrap yard in Kilcock. I went there on Saturday, but it was just about to close, and they told me to take a look. I went outside and there was a huge pile of wheels outside the door.
Is this where you are supposed to find a replacement wheel?
I wouldn't know one from another. Do i need to get a wheel from a Mondeo, or is it enough to get one that has the same diameter (i.e., are the particular to the cars or standard across makes)?
I was also wondering regarding the cars in the lot, if you see something on one that you are interested in, do you have to bring your own tools and take the part off and go up to the desk and pay, or will they take it off for you?
    Thanks,
    Scrapyard Virgin

Is it an alloy or steel wheel?

I often get wheels at this scrapyard:
    Kinsella's Car Dismantlers
    Category: Car Dismantlers
    Red Cow Naas rd Dublin
    Tel: (01)4640726

They're one of the few yards left that let you browse around. Bring a jack and a wheel brace (or socket set), take of the wheel(s), and pay on the way out. Depending on the wheel, they usually charge anywhere between €10 to €20 per wheel.

    Thanks for the replies.
    Just two questions:
    1. Do i have to get a wheel off a Mondeo, or will any wheel that is the same size do, i.e., are wheels specific to car makes and models, or are they standard, just varying in size?

    2. In scrapyards, do you generally have to salvage the parts off the cars yourself, or will the staff do it for you?

    Thanks,

Dunno about the wheel but any parts I've gotten in scrap yards, they've done the dismantling.

Get one off another mondeo, centre bore or offset may be different or wheel trim may not fit properly otherwise

Anywhere you ring up should have it behind the counter for you to collect later
