Working while on dole (but not earning)?

    Hi,

I am working full time on developing a business. I approached the social welfare office and asked was I entitled to any benefits while I was developing the technology for my business - the did a means test and said yes provided I was not recieving any income. So now I am at the end of my development stage and ready to unleash my self on an unsuspecting business world however what I would like to do is continue to collect the dole, recycle ALL my earnings back into the company for a couple of months until I have a sustainable business.

My ideal scenario is that I could get enough business to hire someone to do development work allowing me free to do sales, while still collecting the dole and NOT taking in any personal income from the business. I reckon 3 more months would do it which means I would have been collecting for a total of 9 months. I could also use the money to pay for office space, etc.

Note - to avoid trollers I need to make it clear that I seek information regarding this question: can I continue to get the dole if I can prove that every cent earned is being recycled back into the company?

    Thanks

I think the person you asked in the welfare office has their facts wrong.

Check out the city or county enterprise boards for possible grants.

    The answer is no.

You have to be available and actively seeking work in order to claim job seekers allowance which you wouldnt be doing if your actively working in your own business.

go back to the social welfare office and ask to see the jobs facilitiator. depending on how long you have been on the jobseekers allowance you maybe entitled to claim back to work enterprise allowance (BTWEA).

Information on Back to Work Enterprise Allowance is here.
    It states:
You must have your business approved by your Partnership Company or a Facilitator from this Department before you start self employment.
So you may not be entitled to this as you are already self employed.
