Creative in Louth?

    Hello everyone,

I asked around a while ago but didn't really turn up anything so I thought I'd try again.

Are there any art or drawing groups in Dundalk or Louth that you know of or have attended?

I am 29, live in Dundalk and would really love to attend a group on a weekly basis to draw or paint instead of having to attend a course or something. I have a background in drawing and design and have been working on graphics in my spare time for a while, too. I would really like to get back into drawing, though, as I haven't done much of it since I left college and I am afraid of losing touch.

So; If anyone knows of any groups in this area and could tell me about them that would be much appreciated.

In addition: If there is no group around here and you live in Louth, is there anyone interested to get together every now and then to set up a group?

    Hi there!

I'm afraid I don't know of any groups in Louth but I would encourage you to start one up - facebook is really useful for creating groups like that - Dublin Sketchers started up from just a few people and has a few hundred members now. Start up a blog, the facebook group and post back here. Join the Dublin Sketchers group so that our members in that area might go to your meetups too!

Best of luck with it :)

There doesn't seem to be any on the go but check out Meetup.com. You could set up a group yourself.
    Good luck.

    Thank you both. :)

Well. I haven't attended any groups before so I wouldn't know how to go about it. I might just tag along with the Dublin Sketchers crowd then a few times to see what it's all about, right?

You are more than welcome to join us strooooble - send us a mail if you want to be added to the mailing list - there's a link on the blog. We don't meet until 2pm so it wouldn't be too early a start on a Sunday! :D

Okay cool, when are you guys meeting up next? Maybe I could make it down on the bus. Or if it isn't too hard to find, by car.

Might even take a friend with me. She doesn't draw but she's into photography. She could take a couple of hours to take pics where we're going, maybe.

We send out an email on a Friday and only pick the location then - meet up every Sunday. It's usually fairly central, sometimes we go to Dun Laoghaire etc. but it's always accessible by public transport. If you have any suggestions fire them on!

Sure that's grand, I'll sign up then. :D

Wouldn't have any suggestions, no, I don't actually know Dublin that well. *blush*
